THE EQUIPING AND COVERING OF GOD
Luke 4:18; "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me (Jesus was Anointed) to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised," (Emphasis add)
Isaiah 10:27 “And it shall come to pass in that day, hat this burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
The Anointing! Isaiah prophesied that the Israelites would encounter a day where the burdens would be removed from their shoulders and the yokes from upon their necks and the yokes then being literally destroyed. This burden-removing and yoke-destroying power would come by something called “the anointing.”
In the Old Testament, the Levitical priesthood would anoint people or things with oil. This oil was representative of the Holy Spirit. There were some who were actually “anointed” by the Holy Spirit. Those in the Old Testament received their anointing for a specific task. Commonly, the Holy Spirit would come upon the chosen individual and use him/her for the time. This was not necessarily a permanent condition. We now fast-forward to the New Testament.
We know that Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan. When He came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit came down in the form of a dove and “anointed” Him.
Jesus lived in seeming obscurity for the 30 years prior to His baptism. Something happened, however, after He was anointed by the Holy Spirit.
The Bible then begins to add an addendum to His name and it begins to refer to Him as the Christ. Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Christ literally means “Anointed One.” Fast-forward now to today. Born-again believers today are called Christians, which literally means “Anointed like Christ” or “Anointed Ones.”
Summary
It is important for us to understand the power of the “anointing,” as we come together corporately to believe God for burdens being removed and yokes being destroyed over the lives of those in our community and nation.
Golden nuggets:
- The Old Testament anointing oil was symbolic and the Holy Spirit came upon men temporarily.
- In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is the anointing Himself and He comes into the lives of believers permanently.
- It is not the will of God that we walk around burdened down with worry and yoked with sin. One of the key benefits of life in Christ is to be delivered from burdens and yokes. God wants us to be free and enjoy our freedom in Him!
Are you ready to be free? Stake a claim on this benefit - the anointing. Believe God for deliverance from every addiction and freedom from every yoke.
