Access To Our Heavenly Father

Our Heavenly Father invites us to come boldly before His throne of grace, that we might obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Matthews 27:50, 51, “And Jesus gave another loud cry, and gave up his spirit.  And the curtain of the Temple was parted in two from end to end, and there was an earth-shock, and the rocks were broken.”

No other human being before or after Jesus could ever compare with Him.  He was born like no one else was ever born, lived like no one else ever lived, suffered the greatest penalty for something He did not do and experienced the greatest event ever documented in history.

The Resurrection from the Dead!  Yes, Jesus was the greatest, but He also came so that we could operate in His greatness (John 10:10).  His death, burial, and resurrection bridged the gap between fallen man and a Holy God.  Jesus’ sacrifice allows us the opportunity to be born-again (John 3:3) and to receive a new citizenship in His Kingdom.

We now belong to a new Kingdom, with new laws and new benefits.  To fully understand what Jesus restored we need to understand what was there in the first place.  God created the garden and placed Adam in it and met Him there (Genesis 2).

Adam walked and talked with God and God walked and talked with him.  The original sin caused a separation in that fellowship and the Holy Spirit was taken from man (Genesis 3).

God established a system in the Old Testament where He dwelled in the Tabernacle, in the Holy of Holies.  His Holy Spirit was now confined to the Ark of the Covenant and the only person that had access to this presence was the High Priest, and only once a year, on the Day of Atonement. By the time that Jesus came on the scene, the temple had been rebuilt.

The Ark of the Covenant was now in an elaborate temple and the Holy of Holies was behind a massive curtain.

Once again, only one person had the authority to go pass this curtain and into the presence of God.  Our text teaches us that when Jesus cried His last cry and gave up His spirit, the curtain was split from top to bottom.  For the first time in the history of the Jewish covenant, the Holy Spirit was loosed from the confines of the tabernacle.

Fifty days later, on the Day of Pentecost, that same Holy Spirit was poured out (Acts 2) upon believers and the New Testament church was birthed.

Summary

When you are a born-again believer, you are now that same temple referred to in 1 Corinthians 3:16 and the Holy Spirit now lives inside of you.  Your body is the outer court, your soul is the inner court, and your Spirit is the Holy of Holies.  God Himself, lives inside of you and that access was given to us through Jesus’ work on the cross.

Jesus also said in John 14:13, 14 that we could now come to the Father in His name and receive.  Jesus gave us the access to the Father in His name in prayer and the access to the Holy Spirit with His death.

Are you maximizing your benefits in Christ?  Are you using your access?  If not, it is time to make some changes!  Spend time in prayer to the Father and fellowship with the Spirit.

CONFESSION

Heavenly Father, I can boldly confess the Word of God in the name of Jesus and know that You hear me. I have repented of my sin and accepted Jesus as my Lord. I am covered by His blood and anointed by His Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in me and I am the new temple and walk in this new Kingdom. I utilize my access to You Father and stake a claim on my benefits. I am healed, healthy, blessed, and prosperous in everything I put my hands to do! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
