JEHOVAH-NISSI "The Lord our Banner of Victory"
Exodus 17:15, 1 Corinthians 15:57"
Protections! Our calendar used to be measured by life prior to Christ (B.C.) and life after Christ (A.D.). September 11th, 2001 changed that. Many now categorize our present age as life “Pre-“ or “Post- September 11th”. We know what happened on that day and how thousands of lives were snuffed out and the waves of fear that the events generated all over the world.
People were (and many still are) afraid to get on planes, open mail, and work in large buildings. Since then, we have deployed troops to Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and Haiti (just to same a few). We should pray and confess God’s protection over our military members and all leaders (government and military) at all levels, consistently.
This protection is not a hope, wish or desire; but rather a right and benefit of our new citizenship in the Kingdom of God.
Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
Protection is available, but we must stake a claim for this benefit.
Summary:
1. Protection from weapons: Isaiah knew that Israel and the church would encounter many attacks from the enemy as indicated in our text verse above. The previous verse (v.16) deals with the blacksmith going to great lengths to form skilled weapons to rise up against them. These swords, javelins, daggers, etc.; may be formed, but they would not prosper against the children of God.
Application: Today we know that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:10-18), but are in a spiritual battle. Just as the blacksmith spent countless hours in front of the fire forming weapons to destroy the nation of Israel, the enemy today spends countless hours devising plans of attack against us. He forms many weapons and formulates many plans, but we can find peace in knowing that we have the protection of God. Not ONE of these weapons will prosper against us. God will not stop them from being formed, but He will stop them from prospering against us.
2. Protection from slander: We know that there is the power of death and life in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Just like the enemy forms physical and spiritual weapons against us, he also seeks to attack us through false accusations.
False accusations can cripple a leader, just as quickly as a bullet.
Petition: Our text teaches us that God will condemn every tongue that rises up against us in judgment. Not only will God protect us from the spiritual and physical attacks of the enemy, but we also have a right to protection from verbal attacks.
3. Receiving our Inheritance: A good man leaves an inheritance for his children (Proverbs 13:22). Man cannot be greater than God. God also leaves an inheritance of righteousness for His children. Our text teaches us that this protection is part of our heritage.
Petition: We don’t have to wait on anything external to happen for us to claim this inheritance. Normally, you have to wait for your parent to die. Well, Jesus already died and was raised up from the dead. We can stake a claim on our inheritance right now!
One of our blessed benefits of life in Christ is protection. Are you ready to claim it today?
CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, You are a Righteous God and you leave an inheritance for your children. I am your child and have been born into Your family. I have a right to that inheritance and stake claim on your protection today. No weapon that is formed against me will prosper and every tongue that rises up against me, you will condemn! In Jesus’ name Amen!
