Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
The word translated “power” is the Greek word dunamis. This is the root word for our English word dynamite. Like dynamite, it is loaded and explosive, but only when ignited. Dynamite can be stored safely for years without it ever doing anything. If the dynamite is ever ignited, however, then it immediately affects itself and its environment. The atmosphere around the dynamite feels the effects of the blast and is impacted by its power.
Summary:
God has given us both the right (authority) and the power.
We receive this power (dynamite power) when we receive God’s Holy Spirit.
The power of the Holy Spirit has the propensity to affect us and everything around us,
but if not ignited, it can remain dormant for years.
One of the benefits that we have as born-again believers is this power that can change us and help change those around us. This power gives us the ability to effectively witness (share the gospel) in the midst of difficult circumstances.
God would never equip us with this power if He did Not intend for us to use it. We must use it to help bring about change in our lives and then allow that change to be exhibited to others so that they can experience the same.
Information is the first step, but if not coupled with the application, it will never bring about change in your life. Now that you know you have access to life-changing power, in the Holy Spirit, what are you going to do about it? Will you go on with life as usual, or will you ask the Father, in the name of Jesus, to unleash this power to bring about change in your life and the lives of others?
Paul taught us in Ephesians 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”
The key here is that the Holy Spirit is WITHIN us. We don’t need to wait on anything else. We received everything we would ever need when we received the Holy Spirit.
If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.
Are you ready for a change?
CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, I am a born-again believer. I understand my benefits and I stake claim to those benefits today. You have given me the power, in the person of the Holy Spirit, to bring about change in my life. I tap into that power and pronounce that I am delivered from every yoke of bondage and walk in freedom and liberty. I also share this liberty with others, that they may receive it as well. I will never be the same. In Jesus’ name Amen!
