Jesus dealt with many issues in Matthew 12. He was confronted by the Pharisees about breaking the Sabbath, casting out demons, and committing blasphemy. While Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees, His mother and brothers showed up.
Matthew 12:50 “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."
The scene is described in Matthew 12:46-50. Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." Jesus replied, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" He then pointed to His disciples (followers) and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers… ” We pick up our text as He continues to say “Anyone who obeys my Father in heaven is my brother or sister or mother."
Jesus did not misunderstand the fact that He had a natural family, but He further understood the importance of a Godly family. In the natural, we have mother and father, brothers and sisters, but Jesus clearly illustrated a bond between members of His Body (the Body of Christ) that was even tighter than natural ties. I grew up without a natural brother.
One of the greatest revelations I received when I first became a Christian was the fact that I now had brothers and sisters all over the world. This bond is not limited to race, creed, nor gender. All born-again believers have the same Daddy and are related by the same blood (Jesus’).
Summary
- We can find peace in our Godly family: The Pharisees of this world will always attempt to frustrate the work of God, as seen in Matthew 12. We can find strength and peace, like Jesus did, in our Godly Global Family.
- We can have family fellowship: Like me, you may not have grown up with a natural brother or maybe a sister, but in the family of God, you have brothers and sisters everywhere! Make a decision to spend time with them and get to know them.
- We can enjoy family favor: Just like you would go to the airport to pick up your natural siblings, open up your house to them, feed them, and even clothe them; I have experienced the same from my spiritual siblings many times over.
- We have brothers and sisters: In the Body of Christ all over the world ready and willing to be a blessing to me and available for me to be a blessing to them.
Having a Universal family is a tremendous benefit of our new citizenship in heaven. Are you going to enjoy this benefit or ignore it? Once again, the choice is yours!
CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, I am born-again into your family. You are my Father and every one of your sons and daughters are my brothers and sisters. I enjoy their fellowship and they enjoy mine. I get to know them and allow them to get to know me. I walk in family favor all over the world and enjoy the peace that comes from knowing that I am not alone! In Jesus’ name Amen!
